The Founder’s Journey: Board Evalutions
Bespoke consultancy at two levels:
- A process to give you an initial ‘MOT’ of how well your Board is supporting you as a Founder or you as an investor, we’ll assess the composition, effectiveness and capacity of your Board and help you plan for evolving it.
- An optional starting point is attending one of the workshops, such as Making the most of YOUR Board
- We will meet with you – likely you are the Chair or CEO – to understand:
- the current status of the business, it’s path to here and it’s aspirations of the business
- your own aspirations in the business
- how you think the Board is working for you and the needs of the business
- We will, if you want and for a more thorough evaluation, observe a Board meeting and speak with other Board members as you require
- We will write up a report with our reflections and suggested areas for change.
- We can then help you with identified changes if that’s helpful. Often the ‘outside-in’ reflections from us can be just the nudge and pointers you need to get your Board, your business and your own journey flourishing.
- For those with more complex needs, we offer consultancy support to founder-CEOs and Chairs in maximising the potential of their Board and hence the business and their own roles. This uses the PERF/FORM toolkit:
- Designed, owned & protected by AWC “Board Matters” (ie Adrian Wheale Consutancy Ltd)
- A Board Appraisal & Diagnostic tool that is also unique in that it also serves as an integrated Appraisal and Reward /Bonus/LTIP vehicle.
- An interactive facilitated process that is anchored in both the fundementals of why both the Company/Business and its Board exists (P) and if it’s Business Model is fit for purpose(M).
- By using the mnemonic as a hook, it explores them in the context of the Enterprise, Risk Management, Financial Acumen , Fiduciary Duties and the attendant Organisational and Resouce Deployment required to meet its’ Purpose and deploy the Businesses’ Model successfully.
- Strategically it explores the “ why” as well as tactically the “what and the where” and operationally the “how” + financially the “how much” ( and for whom) etc.
- It was devised in the Corporate Finance domain to assist both Trade Sales and P/E Deals with their new top teams.
- However, it has also been successfully deployed for Owner Proprietors’ to succession plan/ dress their businesses for sale and in the Employee Ownership Arena to facilitate a new EOT and build a nascent board out of the existing management team on behalf of the shareholder partners.
- It is articulated without jargon in everyday English … distinguishing between company and business, leadership and management, accountability/ responsibility and title… whilst placing them in the context of managing shareholder funds, managing risk, and safeguarding staff & stakeholders to achieve optimal returns.

Pricing and terms:
- All payments are plus VAT and invoiced at completion of project or monthly for extended projects by agreement
- Cancellation: 75% refund if project cancelled within 10days of first scheduled meeting; 25% refund if cancelled within 48hrs
